Jan Aushadhi Diwas celebrated in Lakhimpur district

Along with the rest of the nation, Jan Aushadhi Diwas, 2023 was celebrated in Lakhimpur district on Monday.

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the nation, Jan Aushadhi Diwas, 2023 was celebrated in Lakhimpur district on Monday.

Various health institutions, wellness centres of the district observed the event by organizing different programmes. On this occasion, the central programme of the district was organized at Thekeraguri School under Boginadi Block Primary Health Centre.

Taking part in the event as the chief speaker, SD&MO Dr Silpi Saikia said, “Different programmes have been organized across the nation in order to create extensive awareness on Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). On this occasion, a large number of people took pledge to promote the use of generic medicines. Pan India seminars and workshops were conducted on a national level by involving students from colleges and universities. The PMBJP is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through special kendras known as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendra. Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras (PMBJPK) have been set up to provide generic drugs, which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs.”

Notably, the number of PMBJPKs across the nation was increased up to 9,082 till January. On the other hand, a total of 743 districts of the nation out of 764 have been covered under the PMBJP till date.

On the occasion, health screening camp was held under the aegis of the Mobile Medical Unit, National Children Protection Programme in Lakhimpur district. Vaccination camp for mothers and babies, distribution of free of cost medicines, screening of incommunicable disease, e-KYC for Ayushman Bharat Card were also held. The event was attended by health and medical officers, prominent public figures.

Swasthya Mela will be organized on March 14 at various health institutions and wellness centres of the district.
