GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Saturday, February 15, that Japan and Singapore are set to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Assam to facilitate manpower recruitment and academic collaboration.

As part of the agreement, Japan has announced plans to recruit 50,000 youth from Assam for employment opportunities in their country, CM Sarma said. The initial phase will involve hiring 50,000 individuals, with prospects of further expansion. These workers are expected to receive salaries of up to Rs 3,00,000 per month.

Additionally, a Japanese language testing centre will be established by Japan to facilitate language proficiency assessments for potential recruits. To further strengthen educational ties, more than 20 Japanese professors will visit Assam, and a dual degree program between Japan and Assam's universities will be introduced.

This initiative aims to enhance academic exchange and skill development among students. Meanwhile, Singapore has expressed keen interest in recruiting nurses from Assam, signing a second MoU focused on nursing and healthcare employment.

Singapore will implement an English language course in government B.Sc. nursing colleges, with a curriculum provided by Singaporean authorities. Upon completion, the Singapore embassy will facilitate securing employment for these nurses in Singapore.

Reports claim that 17 nurses from Assam have already commenced employment in Singapore, with five resigning from government positions to seize these opportunities.
