Every year, Assam is plagued with Japanese encephalitis (JE) during this time of year. There will be no relief from this alarming illness that targets the nerve system in 2025 either. New outbreak reports are coming in from all around the state, with Dhemaji being the most recent.
A two-year-old kid from Aarsi Majrabari and an 11-year-old girl from Machkhowa's North Dumkata neighborhood are among those impacted. Both kids are being watched over and have gotten the necessary medical care.
In response to the rising cases, the Dhemaji Health Department have stepped up the efforts. Using insecticide-treated bed netting (ITBN) technology, 40,221 mosquito nets have been provided. Ten fogging machines have been used to conduct fogging operations throughout susceptible areas in preparation for a spike in JE cases during the July and August monsoon months.
An important component of the campaign has also been public health outreach. Over 86,000 people from 89 villages have attended the 600 awareness meetings that have been held thus far. Preventive measures, such as environmental cleanliness and personal protection, should be taken carefully, the agency has advised.
With the health department on full alert and preventive measures in place, authorities hope to avoid a repeat of last year’s fatalities and bring the current outbreak under control.
