Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi Flagged off ‘Fit India Plogging Run’ in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR/GAURISAGAR: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi flagged off the ‘Fit India Plogging Run’ in Sivasagar on Wednesday.

Organized by the Sivasagar district administration to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a 2-km plogging was held. Launching the programme, the MP said, “Fitness and cleanliness are two integral parts of our life and by exercising these two, we can make India fit and clean.”

Paying tributes to the Father of the Nation, Gogoi appealed to people to follow the principles of Gandhi and adopt cleanliness as a day-to-day exercise. Urging all to maintain good health and stay fit, Gogoi appealed to everyone to create mass awareness against the hazards of plastic.

Speaking on the occasion, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr MS Lakshmi Priya elaborated on the benefits of plogging in maintaining good health and hygiene. In her brief speech, the DC also highlighted the need to shun single use plastic.

Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha and other officials of the district and police administration along with representatives of several social organizations, NDRF, SDRF and common people also participated in the plogging programme.

The participants experienced a unique combination of picking up litter while jogging. Apart from running the designated two km route, the participants collected plastic waste and other garbage, exhibiting the message of cleanliness.
