GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Jorhat-Dibrugarh section of the National Highway is set to be completed by December 31, 2025. The announcement was made via his official X handle after a meeting with Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), on April 7 in New Delhi.

CM Sarma reiterated the dedication to the implementation of promises made to the people by saying, "This is another promise given to the people which will be fulfilled much before the elections." The meeting was dedicated to examine the progress of various proposed and ongoing infrastructure projects across Assam.

Among the important projects under focus was building a four-lane 19.28-km-long bridge across the Brahmaputra River between Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya. This, when completed, will be India's longest bridge.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister and NHIDCL officials examined the ambitious Rs. 25,000 crore Guwahati-Silchar Expressway that was expected to cut down travel time substantially and improve connectivity among Assam's major cities.

Other important projects were the proposed underwater Numaligarh-Gohpur tunnel, the first one in the Northeast, and widening national highway corridors from Baihata Chariali-Tezpur to Gohpur-Kulajan. These talks highlighted the strategic importance of these projects for regional connectivity as well as national security.
