MANGALDAI: In the tough stand taken by the State Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya following the instruction of the Chief Minister to adopt ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption and anomalies, one more official of the Fisheries Department has been placed under suspension.

This time, an official in the rank of junior engineer has been placed under suspension on the charge of gross irregularities and corruption. The Fisheries Department, vide a letter signed by the Secretary and issued on March 16, has suspended Chakra Singh Mili – a junior engineer in the office of the District Fisheries Development Officer of Nagaon district.

The suspended junior engineer was entrusted with the execution of the work ‘Upgradation of Jongal Bolohu Garh Fish Farm at Raha in Nagaon district’ under the RIDF XIX in the year 2015 at the sanctioned amount of Rs 2,00,25,234. The Director of Fisheries earlier conducted an inquiry and found that the suspended junior engineer misappropriated the amount without execution of the actual work.

On the basis of the inquiry report submitted by the Director of Fisheries, the State Government on Saturday ordered for the suspension of the erring Junior Engineer with immediate effect. The State Government has also ordered the Director of Fisheries to take over all the official papers and records from the delinquent official.

Few days back, the Fisheries Department initiated a ‘surgical strike’ against the ongoing corruption and malpractices in the department and taking a tough stand, has placed 17 officials of the Fisheries Department under suspension.
