Donkamukam: “I will retire from politics if BJP candidate Horen Sing Bey loses in the Lok Sabha election,” KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang declared in a public rally held at Hamren New Market in West Karbi Anglong on Saturday.
“We proposed his name (Horen Sing) to the high command in Delhi because he has the capacity to work for the people and he spearheaded a movement for many years for the cause of the land and its people. Now the time has come for all the people to stand behind him,” said Ronghang. He urged the people of East and West districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao to wholeheartedly support him.
Targeting sitting MP Birensing Engti, Ronghang said that although he had not taken up any development activities, he should thank the people of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao for giving him the opportunity to serve as a parliamentarian for 35 years. “I request him also to join the BJP,” he said.
“Autonomous State issue is in my blood, that is why I led the armed struggle for many years under the banner UPDS and later the MoU was signed,” said Horen Sing Bey, in reply to the Opposition’s claim that he was an extremist leader.
“There was no hatred for any tribe, race, caste or religion by UPDS in those days and instead, we formed the People’s Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA) with the support of 54 tribal and non-tribal organizations,” he added.
In the meeting, more than 300 members of other political parties joined the BJP.
