Karbi Anglong: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to sweep the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election as the saffron party is leading 23 seats off 26.
As per reports, the counting of votes is underway at Diphu, Bokajan and Hamren.
In a bid to avoid any untoward incident, the district administration has arranged tight security measures and also monitoring the counting process.
After the violence broke out in two stations of the Duar Amla Council constituency, the Assam State Election Commission on Thursday thus announced a re-poll in these two polling stations.
The violence broke out when an angry mob had destroyed the ballot boxes alleging foul actions by the polling officials. Subsequently, the security personnel present there blank fired to disperse the violent mob.
In the council's elections that were held on Wednesday, 154 candidates were in the fray.
The BJP participated in all the 26 seats, while the Congress battled for 24 seats. Besides this, AAP contested for 102 seats and the CPIL (ML) stood for 15, among others.
According to the State Election Commission, 77.96 per cent of voting was recorded.
