KHERONI: The district administration of Karbi Anglong rolled out comprehensive measures to address the ongoing flood situation and to brace for the challenges of the monsoon season. The Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Bokajan, announced the establishment of multiple relief camps across the Bokajan subdivision to support affected communities. These camps are managed by designated camp in-charges, including school heads, and Child-Friendly Space (CFS) in-charges, such as Anganwadi workers, to ensure efficient relief operations.

The relief camp in-charges were collaborating with revenue department officials to maintain daily records and secure essential supplies, including Gratuitous Relief (GR) materials, clean drinking water, electricity, sanitation facilities, baby food, and medical support. The Anganwadi workers were tasked with managing child-friendly spaces and providing dedicated assistance to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and other vulnerable groups. A 24x7 control room (Contact: 03675291085) was set up to offer continuous support to those in need.

Floods have impacted several villages, including Ward No. 4 and 5 of Dokmoka, Dingse Tokbi, Teke Rongpi, Kethe Rongpi, Panbari, Shivbari of Diphu, and Dupor Timung. No relief camps have been opened in these areas yet, and no animal casualties have been reported. The water level of the Horkathi River was showing signs of receding, offering some relief to the affected regions. Some areas of the West Karbi Anglong district, like Telhor (Jengkha), Baithalangso, etc., were also affected by flash floods.

However, rising waters from the Dhansiri River submerged the road from Nagakhuli to Deopani, impacting accessibility. Kangdir Teron Gaon under the Kohora division and parts of Bokajan were also affected by the flooding.

A 70-year-old resident of Dokmoka described the severity of the situation, stating, “I have never seen such a severe flood like this. This time, people of this locality have faced havoc with heavy damages to crops and properties.” The sudden opening of all 11 gates of the Dikrit Irrigation Dam at Haber Rongphar College was identified as a key factor exacerbating the flooding and subsequent damages.

To support livestock, fodder from Manja Fodder Farm was being supplied to Bokajan and Silonijan. In Sam Taro AWC, door-to-door Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) distribution was underway to address waterlogging challenges and ensure food reaches affected families.

The district administration directed all relevant departments to conduct on-site visits to the flood-affected areas and ensure the timely delivery of essential services and relief. Authorities were working diligently to mitigate the crisis and provide immediate assistance to those impacted.
