GOLAGHAT: A Kisan Mela was organized in Barahi village at the initiative of the Golaghat District Agriculture Department and in association with an NGO called Octopus.
Bhaben Chutia, a member of Athgaon Gram panchayat, presided over the meeting held at the Kisan Mela. District Agriculture Officer Ranjit Sharma delivered the welcome address at the meeting. In his speech, he spoke about soil quality, soil health check-up, application of fertilizers, benefits of soil health cards etc.
Pankajnabh Das, Officer on Special Duty, Department of Agriculture, who was the chief guest at the Krishi Mela, addressed the farmers in his speech and said that the farmers of Assam had earned Rs 4,000 crore by exporting various agricultural products. Assam exported crops worth Rs 200 crore during the Covid period. He also spoke about the importance of organic farming and farmer producer companies in the economy of Assam. Senior Agriculture Advisor of APART, Debajit Neog, addressed the farmers about the State Government’s fruitful agricultural schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM Fasal Bima Yojana etc
This was followed by a number of agricultural workshops in line with the agricultural fair. Saptarisha Chetia, Agriculture Devlopment Officer, addressed the farmers and spoke on soil quality, soil nutrition, application of fertilizers in the soil, fertility of the soil etc. A farmer training workshop on oil palm cultivation was held at the Krishi Mela.
Around a hundred farmers took part in the Krishi Mela, which was moderated by sub-divisional agriculture officer Ranjan Baruah. The agricultural fair showcased and sold various cakes, pakas, biscuits, etc., prepared by adding value by millet on behalf of Aathkhelia agro-producer companies.
