Kurichhu Hydro Power Project of Bhutan releases excess water

BARPETA: The flood situation of Barpeta district remains unchanged. Due to incessant rains, the Kurichhu Hydro Power Project of Bhutan released 1000+ cumecs at 1 pm on Thursday. It flooded most areas of lower Assam. The flood affected more than 600 villages in the entire district. As per the report of the water resources department, Barpeta, on Thursday evening the water level of the Brahmaputra, Nakhanda, Marachowlkhowa and Bhelengi started receding. But the water level of the Pahumara, Beki and Manah rivers was increasing. In this flood, a total of 616 villages and 8, 79,950 people have been affected. Again, 30,534 hectare croplands of the district have been damaged by the flood.
