'Lackadaisical' attitude of National Highways officials delays NH completion

HAFLONG: The lackadaisical attitude of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) coupled with the long absence of NHAI Project Director at Haflong, the completion of the Jatinga-Harangajao portion of National Highway has been delayed by several years, alleged the conscious citizens of Haflong.

The Regional Office, Guwahati has instructed the Project Director to stay at Haflong but he allegedly remains absent from the Haflong office for reasons best known to him. A group of journalists made several attempts to contact him but failed.

Several organizations of Dima Hasao along with the local people have been demanding early completion of the National Highway, especially Jatinga to Harangajao portion. Following submission of memoranda by frontal student organizations, the NHAI authority approved Rs 1,823 crore project for Nriambanglo to Harangajao portion. Meanwhile, the Jatinga to Harangajao portion was also allotted to a construction company but the works have allegedly been of poor standard.
