Lakhimpur district unit of AAMSU demand for regular midday meal

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) on Friday staged protest in Lakhimpur against non-supply of nutritional midday meal regularly and alleging massive corruption with regard to the release of minority students’ scholarship.

Regarding the issues, the activists of the organization burnt the effigy of Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya at the Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town. The protesters rocked the environment by shouting various slogans against the State government and the Education Minister.

Further the organization demanded the State government to stop the supply of unhealthy midday meal to the students, to scrap the Memorandum of Understanding with the NGOs of other States inked for the supply of midday meal, to engage local NGOs for the same, to declare CBI inquiry into the minority students’ scholarship scam and to release of the scholarships to the students concerned. Central committee assistant general secretary Meraj Ahmed, district AAMSU working president Rafikuddin Ahmed (Faruk), vice-president Rustom Ali, Hadi Khan, Kausar Jaman Ali Hazarika, secretary Abul Hussain and many other dignitaries were present in the protest programme.
