LAKHIMPUR: Keshab Chandra Bhuyan, a popular social activist of Lakhimpur, is no more. He breathed his last at Soumarpeeth Hospital on Thursday night around 1:20 am due to cardiac arrest. He was a permanent resident of Ward No. 11 of North Lakhimpur town. His health condition suddenly deteriorated on Thursday and then he was admitted in the hospital. He was 82. He is survived by his wife and four daughters along with a host of relatives.
Keshab Chandra Bhuyan retired from his service as Sheristadar from the establishment of the District and Sessions Judge, Lakhimpur on August 31 in 2000. He acted as the president of the Lakhimpur district unit of Pensioners' Association till death. He was also the president of Lakhimpur Sangeet Mahavidyalay Management Committee, member of Xahitya Xabha, adviser of Lakhimpur district units of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA), Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA). Moreover, he was involved with many other institutions and social organizations of the district and various developmental activities of North Lakhimpur town.
At his demise, the Lakhimpur district units of AAUA, HYCPA, AASU Lakhimpur Sangeet Mahavidyalay, Adarsha Bazaar Committee of North Lakhimpur town and other organizations and institutions expressed deep grief and condolence to the bereaved family. Lakhimpur unit AAUA paid last homage to the mortal remains at Adarsha Bazaar premises. AAUA State secretary Jiban Rajkhowa was present in the shradhanjali programme organized on this occasion. The commercial institutions of Adarsha Bazaar remained closed till 12 pm as a mark of honour to the demised social activist. Similarly, Lakhimpur unit HYCPA also paid last homage to him and organized a shradhanjali programme at its office premises on Friday evening.
