Three more accomplices of Manoj Tamuli arrested in audio clip case

LAKHIMPUR: Superintendent of Police (SP) of Lakhimpur district, Rajveer Singh has appealed to all not to yield to any fraudsters in order to get appointed in any post of the Police Department. He made this appeal in connection with the arrest of fraudster Manoj Tamuli, the prime accused, who was behind the infamous audio clip which spread rumours and misinformation regarding the ongoing recruitment drive for Sub-Inspectors and constables in Assam Police.

"The candidates should prepare well to do well in their interview. If they have any confusion, they may contact the SP office of the respective district. Instead of it, if they yield to misinformation and rumours or fraudsters, it will affect not only on their preparation and interview, but may also lead them to face criminal cases," said the Lakhimapur SP.

He further reiterated that the recruitment drive for Sub-Inspector and constables would be held in a clean and transparent process and only eligible candidates would be selected for the posts.

On the other hand, Lakhimpur Police arrested three more persons who were involved with Manoj Tamuli's fraud racket. Two of them have been identified as Amrit Sarmah (46) and Ashim Sarmah (38), residents of Salonibari under Sonitpur district, while the other has been identified as Sibajee Panging (34), resident of Shantipur under Saboti area of Lakhimpur district. Notably, Tezpur Police apprehended Amrit Sarmah and Ashim Sarmah, the brothers who were allegedly involved in the fraud racket, for interrogation on Sunday as per confession of prime accused Manoj Tamuli. They were shifted to Lakhimpur from Tezpur on Sunday night.

Manoj Tamuli contacted several persons who were aspirants for the Assam Police Sub-Inspector post. He asked them to pay Rs 4 lakh to get recruited in the posts concerned. In the meantime, an audio clip regarding the illegal deal he made in this connection became viral on social media which created sensation in the Police Department. Following the development, a case was registered against Manoj Tamuli at North Lakhimpur PS vide No. 845/20 US 120 (B)/419/420/468/471 IPC.

Officer in-charge of Lakhimpur Police Station, Aditya Prakash Deuri said that Manoj Tamuli was involved in several crimes in the past and a number of cases were registered against him in Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and Sivsagar districts.
