LAKHIMPUR: A three-day orientation program on wildlife with an objective to increase the practical skill of Lakhimpur Veterinary College's final-year students was organized successfully from March 7-9. It focused on conservation and management of wildlife and provided effective hands-on training to the students.

The workshop was organized by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), State Veterinary Department, Digboi Forest Division, and Lakhimpur Veterinary College. Rajib Rudra Tariang of Digboi College and wildlife rescuer Faruk Ali shared their experience and expertise to the participants.

During the course of the program, the students took part in numerous activities aimed at enhancing their knowledge of wildlife care. They joined cattle vaccination drives in peripheral villages around Dihing Patkai National Park, which provided them with the opportunity to practice their veterinary skills in practical situations. Students also visited the national park and captive elephant camps in Digboi and Margherita.

The course curriculum also included a snake rescue and identification session, and case studies on elephant rescues and treatment. These hands-on sessions were intended to impart students with the expertise in wildlife handling and conservation so that they are ready for their professional careers as veterinarians.

The success of this program is a reflection of the dedication of Lakhimpur Veterinary College and partners to create a new generation of veterinarians who can respond to the realities of wildlife conservation in Assam.
