LDXX organized awareness meeting on application of mother tongue

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha(LDXX) on Thursday organized an awareness meeting on the application of the mother tongue and the official language of the State.

The meeting was held in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s office under the management of LDXX secretary Biren Chandra Bordoloi and teacher Manoranjan Das. Convener of the Matribhasa Aru Rajyabhasa Prayog Upasamiti of LDXX, Indramoni Rajkumar explained the objective of the event. LDXX president Sapon Kumar Dutta, Asomiya Yuva Mancha central committee organizing secretary Anupam Saikia, North Lakhimpur regional AASU president Pranjit Gogoi, Axam Xahitya Xabha State member Dayananda Goswami, North Lakhimpur Press Club president Sailen Baruah and several prominent personalities of the district delivered awareness lectures in the programme.

The event raised a strong demand for the State Government to initiate fruitful steps to apply the Assamese language at the administrative level for the sake of the existence of the language. The meeting expressed deep concern regarding the threats the language had to face during the changing courses of political and social phenomena. LDXX further demanded the State Government to enforce the Act concerned that was adapted in 1960 for the safeguarding of the Assamese language.
