SILCHAR: Leading CPI-M leader, as well as cultural activist Aradhita Mitra, died at a private hospital in Kolkata on Thursday night. She was 57 and left behind her husband Dulal Mitra, general secretary of the Cachar unit of the CPM. Aradhita Mitra was suffering from blood cancer, a family source informed.
Apart from her political activities, Aradhita Mitra was associated with various cultural and educational organisations. She was the founder Headmistress of Rabindranath Tagore Academy, a venture ME school established at Kalibarichar, a slum area in Silchar in 1996. An activist of IPTA, Aradhita Mitra was also the former president as well as general secretary of the Cachar unit of All India Democratic Women Committee. Last rites of Aradhita Mitra were performed at Baranagar-Kashipur crematorium in Kolkata.
