‘Literature a strong medium to usher in integration’ Says Speaker

LAKHIMPUR: The biennial session of the Bihpuriya Sakha Xahitya Xabha, one of the branch units of the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) under Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha (LDXX), was held on Sunday with a day-long programme.

The agenda of the event began with the unfurling of the AXX flag by branch unit Xahitya Xabha president Chandika Dutta Konwar. Lifelong member of the AXX, Dimbeswar Sonowal administered the smriti tarpan. It was followed by the delegates’ meet which commenced with president Chandika Dutta Konwar in the chair. LDXX secretary Biren Bordoloi and spokesman Prasanta Kumar Modak was present in the delegates’ meet as observers and delivered speeches on the occasion. In the same meet, the 31-member executive body of the Bihpuriya Sakha Xahitya Xabha for 2020-22 session was constituted with Jadav Sarmah as president, Niraprabha Phukan as vice-president, Prabin Hazarika as secretary and Preeti Goswami as magazine editor.

On the other hand, the open session organized on the occasion was inaugurated by senior social activist ‘Smriti Surya’ Golok Chandra Hazarika. It was chaired by Chandika Dutta Konwar while former State Education Minister Premadhar Borah graced the occasion as the chief guest. Associate Professor of Bihpuriya College, Haren Chutia participated in the programme as appointed speaker.

“Literature is a medium to bring the people of different castes and creeds, poor and rich nearer to one another. Literature is a strong medium to usher in integration. It reflects the common sorrows and joys of the people, ideals and fundamental humanitarian problems,” said the appointed speaker in his lecture.
