SIVASAGAR: Chandra Shekhar Dutta of Demow, a student of third semester of Sibsagar College, Joysagar, who suffered a road mishap, died after locals alleged that a private hospital in Sivasagar refused to treat the victim.

The accident took place near the Lakshminath Bezbaruah Park at around 8.30 am on Friday when Dutta who was coming in a scooty was involved in a collision with a bicycle near the Dikhow bridge. He sustained grievous injuries, and was rushed to a nearby nursing home with the help of some local youths.

However, the nursing home authorities allegedly refused to attend to him. Later, he was taken to Sivasagar Civil Hospital. Though doctors tried their best to save his life, the victim breathed his last in the hospital.

Meanwhile, allegations of high-handedness are rife against the private nursing homes in the town. At a time when the Sivasagar district administration is mulling to re-introduce emergency services during the night at all private nursing, Friday’s incident has infuriated the locals. Local residents have also demanded that the district administration should take strict action against the nursing home for its alleged negligence.
