571st Sankardeva Birth Anniversary Programme Concludes at Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: “Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva was the seer of the future. He paved a new way for the transformation of the collective psyche of the society with true spiritual philosophy, transcending the dogmatic religious beliefs and thereby reforming the malpractices. The true adherence of his ideology is potent enough to lead individuals towards a special consciousness. It will be injustice for his multifaceted genius if he is always analyzed as only a religious preacher,” said journalist Ranjit Kakati in Lakhimpur on Thursday.

He said this while taking part as youth speaker in the open session of the Srimanta Sankardeva’s 571st birth anniversary celebration programme organized by the Madhavjyoti regional branch of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha under Lakhimpur district unit. Notably, the regional unit of the organization celebrated the event from October 8 to 10, covering the greater southern part of the district under the management of the Amtola-Bishnupur Prathamik Sakha at the namghar concerned.

The open session of the event was chaired by regional unit president Ananda Dutta. It began with Guru Vandana and Diha naam performed by the women under the Prathmik Sakha. The programme was inaugurated by headmaster of Amtola High School, Paramananda Das while celebration committee president Deba Kanta Phukan delivered the welcome address. As the speaker of the programme, Ranjit Kakati delivered an elaborated speech on the spiritual philosophy of Srimanta Sankardeva and its relevance in the present day society.

“The immense contribution of the multifaceted figure, who is the luminous spiritual apostle of the State, ushered in a Renaissance in the Assamese society marking a great epoch in the history of Assam. He knitted a garland of social integration with each and every community of the region with the bond of harmony,” he further remarked.

Former president of the Aai-Matri Aru Sishu Kalyan Samiti of the Lakhimpur unit of the organization, Makan Nath graced the occasion as guest of honour. She also delivered her speech highlighting the noble ideology of the great personality to be adhered by women to build a better society. The event started on the first day with Pratah Prasanga which was followed by the birth anniversary celebration of the Vaisnavite saint under the management of the Prathamik Sakha. Several cultural and literary competitions on the creation and cultural contribution of Sankardeva were held on the second day. Bhagawat Bhraman and cultural procession was organized on the concluding day prior to the open session wherein several cultural items on Sankardeva’s creation were presented by the local artistes. At night on the concluding day, the youth and child artistes under the Prathamik Sakha staged an Ankiya bhaona named Ram-Vijay.
