Jorhat: A tragic incident had taken place in Assam that shook the whole state.

On Wednesday, a ferry with the name Ma Kamala capsized after it collided with another ferry, MB Tipkai at around 4 pm at Nimati Ghat in Jorhat. Ma Kamala was leaving Nimati Ghat when it hit MB Tipkai, which was coming from Majuli.

In times of such dreadful occurrences, few stories help regain our lost hopes. The same is in the case of Jayanta Madhav Saikia who had saved the lives of 5 people with the help of his brother while their ferry had overturned in the mighty water of the Brahmaputra.

On Wednesday, Jayanta had taken her mother to the hospital for a check-up along with his brother. His mother was mentally unstable and had poor eyesight as a consequence of diabetes.

They had to go back to Majuli and therefore arrived at Nimati Ghat at about 4 pm and boarded the ill-fated ferry which was ahead of schedule by 15 minutes.

After covering a certain distance, a ferry, MB Tipkai, coming from Majuli at full speed was seen. The two ferries collided with each other causing the Ma Kamala ferry to overturn.

Jayanta shared, "Soon after the boat flipped I just had one thing in my mind that I have to save my mother and everyone possible so that no one loses his loved ones."

"I saw my mother at a short distance, I told her to give me her hand and I pulled her towards the boat. After saving my mother, I and my brother managed to save the lives of five others by pulling them into the boat," he added.

It was fortunate that the ferry was not carrying any four-wheelers or the situation could have been much worse.

Jayanta further added, "We had the advantage of allowing people in the water to get on top of the boat as the boat flipped upside down. We picked up about 25 people and carried them on top of the boat without damaging the boat. If the boat would have damaged, no one would have survived."

Janyata has been receiving praises for his quick action which helped reduced the number of casualties of the incident.
