Meeting on flood preparedness held in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The district administration, Kokrajhar on Tuesday held a flood preparedness meeting with the district heads of departments in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.

The meeting, which was chaired by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Partha Pratim Mazumdar, reviewed and assessed the flood preparedness of different departments in the district and asked them to take necessary steps to minimize the consequences of such calamities. Referring to previous flood situations in the district, particularly under Kokrajhar Municipality Board, the Deputy Commissioner asked the chairman to be alert for proper maintenance and cleaning of drainage system before the monsoon started.

He also took stock of the flood preparedness done by the departments concerned and asked them to submit their contingency plans in his office by March 31. He further directed the officers of the Food Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs to keep sufficient food stuff stocked, the Health and Family Welfare department to keep doctors and paramedical staff ready with sufficient medicines, Veterinary department to keep cattle fodder and medicines ready and Social Welfare department to keep baby food ready. He also asked the Circle Officers of Kokrajhar, Dotma, Gossaigaon, Bhauraguri and Bogribari to prepare plans from their side also after visiting flood-prone areas of their jurisdiction.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Debeswar Bora, Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Medhi along with district heads of the departments of PWD, Irrigation, Water Resources, P& RD, Transport, Education, Health and Family Welfare and Social Welfare were present in the meeting.
