Mising Community Celebrates Ali-Aye-Ligang with Traditional Pomp in Sivasagar

Ali-Aye-Ligang, the traditional Spring festival of the Mising community, was celebrated with traditional prompt and gaiety at various parts of the Disangmukh area on the outskirts of Sivasagar.

GAURISAGAR: Ali-Aye-Ligang, the traditional Spring festival of the Mising community, was celebrated with traditional prompt and gaiety at various parts of the Disangmukh area on the outskirts of Sivasagar. The villages of Ofla, Charaipara, Mamal Garbhaga, Ligiribari, Majarbari, Chomani, Jolatup, Chenimara, and Dimowmukh celebrated the festival with a day-long programme.

In the morning session, after sowing paddy seeds to mark the festival, Gumrag dance was performed. According to Mising folk belief, agriculture starts five days after Ligang .On Wednesday, the people played the drums in the courtyards of the Morungghar of every village.

Similarly, in the Dikhowmukh area on the outskirts of Gaurisagar, the villagers of Janomiri Borgaon, Alimur, and Thekeratal celebrated Ali-Aye-Ligang with religious enthusiasm.
