Silchar: In a shocking breach of hospital security, a mobile phone was stolen from an elderly patient inside Valley Hospital, a private healthcare facility in Meherpur, Silchar, just hours before the patient was scheduled for a minor surgery.

According to the victim’s family, the elderly man had been admitted on Wednesday evening and was placed in a deluxe room for enhanced care and privacy. However, on Thursday morning, while his wife briefly stepped out of the room, an unidentified individual entered, claiming to be a hospital staff member assigned to prepare the patient for surgery. The impersonator allegedly spoke to the patient, gained his trust under the pretext of changing his dressing, and then stole his mobile phone before fleeing the premises.

CCTV footage from the hospital reportedly captured the suspect's entry and exit, and has since been reviewed by the patient’s family. A relative has shared the video and full account of the incident with Barak Bulletin, calling attention to the hospital’s lax security protocols.

The incident has raised pressing concerns about visitor verification systems and patient safety at private hospitals in the region. As of now, it is unclear whether a formal police complaint has been lodged or if the suspect has been identified. Hospital authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
