Movement restriction along Jatinga-Harangajao stretch amid rain alert

HAFLONG: In response to the warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, regarding severe weather conditions, heavy winds, and intense rainfall expected over Assam, including Dima Hasao, from May 30 to June 2, the District Commissioner & Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Dima Hasao, has exercised powers under Section 30 (2) (V) and Section 30 (2) (XVIII) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to issue the following order: Closure of Educational Institutions (All educational institutions will remain closed on May 31, except for compartmental examinations, which will proceed as per the SEBA schedule), Vehicle Movement Restrictions (Beginning 8 PM on May 30, the movement of heavy commercial vehicles on the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch will be restricted until June 2.

Relevant departments, including Agriculture, PWD (R&B), APDCL, Irrigation, Soil Conservation, AH & Veterinary, Health, and PHE, must ensure their field staff remain on high alert, immediately report damages to the DDMA, take swift action for restoration work as necessary.

Besides, residents have been strongly advised to remain indoors during heavy rainfall, except in cases of emergency or medical necessity. Citizens must stay vigilant in anticipation of any potential disaster-related emergencies.

As per the order, all Block-Level Disaster Management Teams have been placed on high alert to ensure swift response and coordination. Any violations or non-compliance with this order will be dealt with as per Section 51 (b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
