Mwihur International Theatre Festival concludes in Kokrajhar

Minister of Handloom and Textile and Guardian Minister of Baksa, UG Brahma said Mwihur International Theatre Festival was the first mega theatre show in BTR.

KOKRAJHAR: The week-long 1st 'Mwihur' International Theatre Festival organized by the Lwrgi Theatre Group of Kokrajhar with the support of department of Cultural Affairs and Theatre, BTC concluded on Friday evening.

The last show of theatre, closing ceremony and valedictory function was held at Bodofa Cultural Complex. The closing drama 'Rudali' from Rajasthan, directed by Arvind Singh Chandravanshi, was presented by Gandhi Hindusthani Sahitya Sabha got huge acclaimed from the spectators and guests. Earlier, 'Fans' in Bengali language from West Bengal directed by Suvojit Bandopadhyay, presented by Paramik Barakpore, Howrah was staged which also received good applause. The last show 'Rudali' touched the hearts of the spectators as it reflected the culture and traditions of remote village of Rajasthan.

Attending the closing ceremony as chief guest, Minister of Handloom and Textile and Guardian Minister of Baksa, UG Brahma said Mwihur International Theatre Festival was the first mega theatre show in BTR. He said it was a confluence of art and culture of different region of the country where each other's generic identity, traditions were showcased with artistic flavour.

"The Bodo theatre bloomed with great challenges of stars of yesterday but nowadays it is going to down ward direction," he said adding that the organizing this mega theatre event was also a great challenge to bring back a revolution for the revival of theatre which can foster a positive message to the society.

"It is very important to bring back the theatrical revolution among the upcoming youths," Brahma said and added that there was lack of drama schools in BTR. There are many budding talents in culture and theatre in BTR. He said drama schools were the need of the hour in BTR to explore talents and assured that he would extend help the Lwrgi Theatre Group of Kokrajhar while urging the State Government to establish drama school in BTR.

The president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Taren Boro who enjoyed the drama till the end, said by organizing the international theatre festival, the people of different parts of the country got an opportunity to come together and exchange their art, culture and traditions. He also said the theatre had strengthened the bond of love and unity among all. He hoped that the event would be organized every year to bring message of love and unity among diverse section of society.

The closing ceremony was also attended by EM of BTC Reo Reoa Narzihary, secretary Naren Chandra Basumatary and Ditaka Nanda Hazarika, Deputy Secretary Shanta Kr. Brahma, CHD of I&PR Ansuma Mahilary and retired principal of Government College of Teachers' Education and Padma Shri award winner Sr. Mangalsing Hazoary.

The CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro also enjoyed the theatre for some time. All the artistes and director of Rudali were felicitated with traditional Aronai and memento by the Lwrgi Theatre Group.

As many as seven drama teams from seven states from across the country-Assam, Manipur, West Bengal, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Kerala -participated along with drama teams from Nepal and Srilanka while BTR presented three dramas from their side in Bodo language.
