TINSUKIA: A National Book Fair will be held under joint aegis of Tinsukia District Xahitya Xabha and Tinsukia district committee of AASU from November 28 at Chaliha Nagar field, Tinsukia. A public meeting was held on Sunday at Tinsukia District Xahitya Xabha auditorium with Dr Girish Handique in the chair to discuss about the proceedings for the book fare. One of the organizing secretaries Taranga Malla Baruah, while explaining the objectives, emphasized on the wider publicity and awareness and sought suggestions from the invited guests.

In his speech, president Tinsukia Press Club Saroj Gohain said that book fare should be arranged annually in order to generate interest in book reading among the masses and assured support of the Press Club to create mass awareness among general public. President Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association Dr Rishi Das said that the book fare can become successful only when it gets transformed into a festival. As the response was always lukewarm in Tinsukia, he suggested that prior to holding the book fare, the organizers should arrange awareness programme in schools particularly in rural areas. The speakers in the meeting also suggested involving DEEO and Inspector of Schools in the awareness programme. Some speakers also suggested to hold some creative programme along with the main events.
