Newly-erected concrete bridge over Kapili river collapses in Nagaon

NAGAON: Following the sudden collapse of a newly-erected concrete bridge over Kapili river near Kampur town on Thursday afternoon, a slew of local organizations including Bir Lachit Sena, Kampur Anchalik Yuvak Samaj, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samittee, Praktan Chatra Samannyak Samittee etc on Friday went on a rampage and staged protest against Public Works Department as well as the concerned authority of the construction company.

Hundreds of the protesters from the organizations participated in the stir and also shouted various slogans against the construction agency as well as the officials of the concerned department. During the stir, the agitators strongly criticized the local Barhampur MLA and the officials of the department concerned and alleged that it happened due to acute negligence of the proprietor of the company.

Besides, the protesters also demanded immediate arrest of the proprietor of the company and the executive engineer. The agitators also demanded blacklisting of the construction company without any delay as it was happened because of acute negligence of the contractor concerned as well as the officials of the department concerned, sources added further.

Over three workers engaged in the construction of a PWD concrete bridge over Kapili river near Kampur town were seriously injured on Thursday afternoon when the half done south portion of the concrete bridge fell down, sources said.

Meanwhile, some locals rushed to the spot and immediately rescued three workers from the site. All these three rescued workers were immediately admitted to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital.
