Nipon Goswami to receive Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Bor Asom Sampriti Bota

LAKHIMPUR: The celebration committee of Asom Divas, to be jointly celebrated by the Lakhimpur district units of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Asom (TAYPA) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP) on December 2, will confer the Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha Bor Asom Sampriti Bota to senior artiste and cine actor Nipon Goswami.

The award will consist of Rs 25,000 cash, a memento, a heng-dang, traditional male attires of the Ahom community with a turban. It was declared by the dignitaries of the celebration committee in a press conference organized at North Lakhimpur Press Club.

Addressing the press conference, celebration committee president Ajit Burhagohain informed the media persons that the event would be organized to spread the liberal ideologies of Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha which were the main factors responsible for the formation of greater Assamese community during the thirteenth century. As a part of the programme, a colourful cultural rally will be taken out with the participation of almost 60 cultural groups representing all the castes and communities of the State. Popular actor Pritam Kharghoria and actress Chumki Kachari will take part in the cultural rally.

Moreover, a symposium on a topic ‘The liberal political ideology of Siu-Ka-Pha is the root factor for the formation of greater Assam’ will also be organized, wherein literary critic Ismail Hussain, editor of Saumarjyoti, Uday Sankar Hazarika and academician Dr. Suresh Kumar Dutta will take part as resource persons.

On the other hand, an exhibition-cum-competition on traditional attires will be held to promote the Edi, Silk and Muga industry of the State. State P&RD and Cultural Affairs minister Naba Kumar Doley will grace the open session as chief guest while opposition leader Debabrata Saikia will be present as guest of honour and TAYPA State general secretary Diganta Tamuli and AJYP State general secretary Udayan Kumar Gogoi as invited guests.
