"Northeast has nothing to fear": DoNER minister Jitender Singh says Art 371 to stay intact

The fear of Article 371 being moved or ended by the central government that Northeastern people have been holding since the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir is baseless and comes to an end finally. The Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh has assured the people of the region. All sorts of rumours or possibilities of changing or ending Article 371 have been denied by the minister and he added that the article will remain as it is without any change to it.

Singh took to make his statement through the micro-blogging site twitter wherein he said, Singh said, "North East has nothing to fear, Art 371 will stay as it is."

The minister also added that there is no point in comparing Article 370 with Article 371. It has also been added that the people of the nation are being tried to be misled by someone in the name of removing Article 371. It was added that the government has no intention in removing Article 371. This article was implemented to give some special rights to some of the Northeastern states.

As per Article 371(G) of the Constitution of India, the Parliament has no right to decide on the matters of the religious and social practices of the Mizos along with the civil and criminal law of the land, land ownership transfer, and customary law procedure without the consent of the Assembly.

However, the Article 371A states that no act of Parliament shall apply to the state of Nagaland in respect of the religious or social practices of the Nagas, its customary law and procedure, administration of civil and criminal justice involving decisions according to Naga customary law and ownership and transfer of land and its resources.
