GUWAHATI: Dr Srutimala Duara academic, writer and media personality passed away on the morning of Monday at a private hospital after a brief illness.
A popular personality she wore several hats, from writing poetry and fiction to anchoring and participating in cultural events, and translation work and was involved in theatre and other performing arts in the state. An Associate Professor of English, at Handique College, she authored children’s stories, and short fiction and regularly wrote travel columns based on her various visits abroad and closer home. A travel aficionado she regaled her audience, formal and informal, with her accounts, anecdotes and life experiences.
Having struggled with debilitating health over the past year, Srutimala had recently authored a memoir on her battle ( with cancer) and stayed until the end positive and philosophical about life.
She leaves behind two children, her husband, including her mother, Dr Manjumala Das, renowned writer and former professor of Assamese, and her beloved host of friends and family members besides professional associates and colleagues.
