Noted theatre activist Netra Kamal Borthakur passes away in Nagaon

Netra Kamal Borthakur, noted theatre activist, director, playwriter and academician breathed his last at his Bebejia Brahmangaon residence due to cardiac arrest.

NAGAON: Netra Kamal Borthakur, noted theatre activist, director, playwriter and academician breathed his last at his Bebejia Brahmangaon residence due to cardiac arrest.

He was 81. He leaves behind his wife, his son, theatre activist and daughter. Born in 1942 at Bebejia Brahmangaon, Borthakur joined in Nataraj theatre, a pioneer mobile theatre group of the state in 1963, he wrote over 40 full script plays, 15 one act plays and set up a new image in the field of stage drama across the district. Besides, he started a new theatre group titled as ‘Gadi’ at greater Hatichung mouza. He also set up another mobile theatre group - ‘Sriguru theatre’.

He retired from Chakalaghat High School a couple of decades back and was involved in various educational as well as other cultural organizations of the district until his death. Several local organizations including Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, Asom Natya Sanmilan, AASU, AJYCP etc as well as other dignitaries of the district like local MLA Rupak Sarma, MLA Sibamoni Bora, Congress leader Mira Borthakur, etc condoled his demise and also paid tribute. His demise has cast a pall of gloom across the district.
