Sarat Chandra Deka, an ideal educationist of Bengbari and Harisinga area in Udalguri district, breathed his last on January 15. He was 79. His death cast a pall of gloom in the entire Bengbari and Harisinga area. He was associated with a good number of social organizations of Udalguri district till death. Deka had served the Bengbari High School as honorary teacher for the last 16 years and retired as headmaster of the school in 2004. He was a voracious reader of Assamese books and magazines and encouraged the youngsters to inculcate the habit of reading.

Mrinal Dutta

Mrinal Dutta, a leading citizen of Tinsukia and president of Gopap Chandra Rabi Chandra Nitya Mandir, breathed his last at his Parbotia Road residence in Tinsukia on January 20. Dutta complained of chest pain on Sunday evening and then he suffered from severe cardiac failure. A pall of gloom descended no sooner the news of his death spread in the town with hundreds of his admirers and associates thronging his house. He was 72. Dutta was the architect in renovating Gopap Chandra Rabi Chandra Nitya Mandir while he was officiating as secretary for 22 years. He was closely associated with several socio-cultural and public bodies, besides being a member of Soumarjyoti Vidyalaya SMC. He was also a member of Tinsukia Municipal Board. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters. Organizations, while expressing deep shock at his demise, paid heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
