DIBRUGARH: Oil India Limited (OIL), India's second largest national exploration and production company, in its vision to be an integrated energy company and to strengthen its bouquet of clean energy offerings, will build a 100 kw Green Hydrogen plant at its pump station #3 in Jorhat, Assam. OIL has initiated the action for the establishment of the above pilot plant for generating Green Hydrogen with AEM Technology. This is a first of its kind project in the country.
Speaking on the occasion of bhumi pujan ceremony of the proposed 100 KW capacity Green Hydrogen Pilot Project on December 21, Pankaj Kumar Goswami, Director (Operations), OIL provided the details on the ambitious project undertaken which will help OIL to understand the effects of blending of hydrogen with natural gas on the existing infrastructure.
Hydrogen being the leanest form of energy is the latest focus area across the globe to satiate the rising energy needs. Green hydrogen is derived from water electrolysis using renewable energy like solar or wind.
Biomass-based hydrogen production technologies also qualify under the green category. The Government of India recently announced the National Hydrogen Mission in the Union Budget 2021, initiating a hydrogen roadmap for the country. Under the Paris agreement (COP-21) by the year 2030, India is committed to reduce its greenhouse emissions by 33-35 per cent from the 2005 levels. This has caused finding alternative sources of cleaner energy.
