Guwahati: As countries across the globe are left grappling with the coronavirus crisis, Assam's Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chose to seek solace in the lap of Mother Nature on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Sarma, who spent the early hours of the day in Upper Assam's Dhemaji district, took a stroll in Gogamukh. Not to be deterred by a spell of early-morning rain, Sarma, who was followed by his security detail, walked for a few kilometres to soak in the beauty of nature.

"Assam's richness of nature, flora and fauna and her beauty is always captivating. Felt rejuvenated after walking for a few kilometers amid the serene environs of Gogamukh in Dhemaji. On World Environment Day, I urge everyone to love and respect nature to enjoy her blessings", Sarma later tweeted where he also posted a few pictures of his morning experience.

"How we treat our Mother Earth and Environment today will decide how it treats us tomorrow! Our religious scriptures too teach us the value of a pure environment to achieve God. This World Environment Day let's pledge to nurture Nature and protect biodiversity for future generations", Sarma wrote in another tweet.

At the same time, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has urged each citizen of Assam to plant a sapling to commemorate the occasion. "We all have to plant a sapling each and foster a natural environment. We have to strive so that the atmosphere of Assam remains clean", Sonowal said in a video message yesterday, urging upon people from all walks of life to take active participation in this exercise.

It needs mention here that the World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June every year, and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.
