BISWANATH CHARIALI: Due to heavy rain in the last few days in the State, the Brahmaputra as well as most of its tributaries in North Assam have been wreaking havoc by flooding large areas.
According to official information, more than 69 villages in Biswanath district have been flooded this year. A total of 35,659 people from 39 villages of Gohpur Revenue Circle and 40 villages of Helem Revenue Circle under Gohpur subdivision of the district have been affected by the recent floods. It covers 1,320 hectares of land in Gohpur Revenue Circle and 1,170 hectares in Helem Revenue Circle. SDRF personnel had earlier rescued 25 people trapped in the flood-hit area. A shelter camp has been set up at Dathkala in Helem Revenue Circle where a total of 53 people are taking shelter.
The Biswanath district administration and Gohpur subdivisional administration distributed 378,024 quintals of rice, 7,077 quintals of dal and 1098.81 quintals of fodder for livestock in the flood-affected areas. The district administration has directed the Department of Health to be ready for the prevention of disease outbreak in the affected areas and also the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary to monitor the health of domestic animals. An emergency control room has been opened for emergency communication in the flood-affected areas of the subdivision.
