JORHAT: A total of 56,844 farmers of Jorhat district on Sunday received more than Rs 11 crore of the 20th instalment of Pradhan Mantri Krishak Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan scheme).
An agriculture department source informed that the amount was transferred into the bank accounts of the farmers as Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday released the instalment nationwide at a function held in Varanasi to observe PM Kisan Utsav Divas.
The Pradhan Mantri Krishak Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) is a scheme funded by the Centre. It gives Rs 6000 a year to eligible farmers, paid in three instalments every four months. The money is transferred directly to the farmer's bank account. About 9.4 crore farmers across the country will benefit to the tune of Rs 20,500 crore.
The programme of PM Modi in his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi was telecast live at KVK Jorhat, at Kaliapani, Teok Central Jorhat Development block, North West Jorhat Development block, East Jorhat Development block, East Teok Development block, Titabor Development block, and all Gaon Panchayat offices in the district under the aegis of KVK, Jorhat, and Jorhat district agriculture department.
The programme was attended by District Agriculture Officer Debajit Dutta, Dr Manoj Kumar Chouhan, Senior Extension Specialist, Agricultural Extension department, Assam Agricultural University, Rupam Kakati, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer and District Nodal Officer, Pradhan Mantri Krishak Samman Nidhi, and Trishnali Saikia, Agricultural Economics Specialist.
A total of 203 people including Officer (Soil) Gitimallika Hazarika, Project Officer Vedanta Sharma, Agriculture Inspector Lalit Taid, other officers and employees of Jorhat district agriculture department and Agricultural Science Centre, directors of general service centres, progressive farmers of Teok, Nakachari, and Selenghat Agricultural Development Circle were present in different places where the event was broadcast.
The live broadcast was also attended by block development officers, agricultural development officers, agricultural extension assistants, and selected farmers of the district.
