NAGAON: Along with the rest of the state and the district-level coordination committee, Nagaon concluded the special plantation drive under Amrit Briskha Andolan on Sunday. The flagship scheme, which was initiated by the state government under the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to combat global warming as well as promote a tree-based economy across the state, was concluded. The scheme was officially launched in the state on June 8.

According to sources, the district-level coordination committee of Nagaon distributed over 6 lakh commercial seedlings of trees like Agor, Neem, White Sandal, etc. among 2,80,971 residents under 13 development blocks and 2 part blocks in the district. The coordination agency provided two seedlings to each resident to plant on their own patta land, sources said. While talking to the me-dia, the newly appointed DFO of Nagaon Forest Division, Suhas Kadam, said that a total of 2,80,971 individuals from Nagaon dis-trict registered their names in the portal of the scheme, and each of them got two commercial seedlings of trees like Agor, Neem, White Sandal, etc. The scheme is planned with a mission to plant one crore seedlings of commercial trees, aiming to promote a greener and more sustainable environment in the entire state, DFO Kadam asserted.
