"Dr Kannan's selfless work in this field has drawn many people and organisations to come forward and work for a social cause to fight against menace like cancer," DC Jalli said.

"The idea of what we say 'Nothing is impossible' gets validated by the story of Dr Ravi Kannan. He came from a high profile city, Chennai and worked here to reinforce the health scenario of the valley. Settling down here, adjusting to society would have been a challenge," she added.

Dr Ravi Kannan who joined Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre in 2007 and currently its Director, spoke on this occasion and said "Treatment of Cancer needs team work and for me to be in this position is because of my team and for that this award belongs to each one of them, such a recognition is definitely an encouragement to me and our goal is to convince each and every cancer patient to get treatment."

Elaborating on the current plan and objectives of Cachar Cancer hospital & Research Center, Dr Kannan said, "Our prime moto is to give best treatment to the cancer patients of this valley, at the same time we are planning to set up satellite hospitals in other districts like Dima Hasao, Karimganj and in other areas also so that the best possible treatment can be given at all levels and mortality rates can be decreased by treating the cancer patients if detected at an earlier stage."

"Barak valley is among the most deprived areas in the country in terms of medical facilities, since I joined here the first challenge we faced here was people's unwillingness to get expensive treatment for an ailment that seems incurable. I want to tell each and every patient that cancer is curable and I don't want to see a single person dying in indignity because of cancer," he added.
