Goalpara: Goalpara district administration has finished its preparation for the panchayat election scheduled to be held from December 9 in the second phase in the district. The District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka announced the reservation of the seats in 81 gaon panchayats, 16 zila parishads and 8 anchalik panchayats.
Among the zila parishad seats, Dhupdhara, Kuchdhowa, Bodahpur, Dwarka and Takimari have been declared as open. On the other hand, Krishnai, Suryagiri, Ambari, Jaleswar, Chunari and Bhasanipara are reserved for female candidates. The Rongjuli seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste, Agia and Rajmita for Scheduled Tribe, and Matia and Dodan for Scheduled Tribe female candidates.
The date for filling nomination is fixed on November 19, withdrawal of nomination on November 22 and counting of votes on December 12. Political parties like Congress, BJP and AGP have already witnessed huge gathering in their respective offices in Goalpara town after the Assam State Election Commission announced the poll schedule. The residences of all the four MLAs were busy throughout the night with aspiring candidates and their supporters.
