DIBRUGARH: Reiterating the critical role of grassroots participation in strengthening democratic institutions, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, congratulated all the candidates who took part and contested in the three-tier Panchayat elections under the newly-formed Makum Legislative Assembly Constituency.
Sonowal praised the candidates’ dedication and called upon all elected representatives to work with integrity to build a strong foundation of good governance through the Panchayati Raj system.
Calling their participation a reflection of commitment to public service, the senior BJP leader said, “Each and every candidate deserves heartfelt congratulations. Your sincere involvement, whether in victory or otherwise, has helped reinforce the BJP’s organizational strength across all panchayats in the constituency. We must continue our work to further the vision of PM Narendra Modiji towards making Bharat Viksit by 2047.”
Underscoring that lasting political success is not achieved overnight, the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha MP, Sonowal, said, “Just like Olympic glory takes years of effort, political credibility is built step by step at the grassroots. Representatives must be accountable to the people, guided by integrity, and dedicated to transparent, corruption-free governance.”
Sonowal emphasised that the true foundation of good governance is rooted in values within the Panchayati Raj system. “We must build a strong base for governance by upholding values. Panchayat leaders must be responsible, ethical, and answerable to the people. That is our fundamental duty. Good Governance begins with values in the Panchayati Raj system.”
The senior BJP leader urged unity among party workers and elected members beyond electoral outcomes. “Win or lose, we are all fellow travellers in the same boat. Our shared mission must be to serve the people and work towards their upliftment,” Sonowal added.
In sharp criticism of the Congress era, the senior BJP leader said, “Congress gave us nothing but violence, fear, and division. Assam and India were pushed into backwardness to darkness during their rule. We lacked roads, electricity, schools, hospitals, jobs, and industries, leading to the rise of insurgency and unrest. Congress exploited ethnic divides and fostered political instability.”
