JORHAT: Polling and presiding officers along with security personnel left for their respective destinations from Wednesday morning. Total 667 big and small vehicles have been pressed into service to ferry officials while six vehicles have been used to carry wheelchairs for 5,342 PwD voters. Eight candidates are in fray for the Jorhat HPC which will go to vote on April 11.

From Wednesday, the strong rooms at Jorhat HQ, Titabor subdivision, Sivasagar HQ, Charaideo HQ, Sonari subdivision and Nazira subdivision have been kept on high alert, said Roshni Aparanji Korati, the Returning Officer of 12-Jorhat HPC.

The General Observer in charge of 12 Jorhat HPC, along with other general and expenditure observers, are strictly monitoring the political parties, so that no flow of money and liquor can be made to woo voters, especially from the tea community and rural voters.

Parties play last-minute politics but due to responsible polling officials, no case has been detected so far and no case of group or party fighting has been reported from the constituency, said Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha, the General Observer.
