Preparations afoot for 571st birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva

SIVASAGAR: Brisk preparations are on to celebrate the 571st birth anniversary of Vaishnavite saint and reformer Srimanta Sankardeva. The Old Amolapatty Gohain Gaon Namghar Samaj will celebrate the birth anniversary of the saint with two-day programmes from October 7 to October 8.

To celebrate the occasion in a grand manner, an organizing committee with Pawan Gogoi as president, Apurba Borgohain as secretary, and Dr Pranab Gogoi and Bhupen Gogoi as joint secretaries has been formed.

Ranjit Borgohain, president of Old Amolapatty Gohain Gaon Namghar Samaj, said that a district-level art and quiz competition would be held on the first day. The art competition will be inaugurated by secretary of Old Amolapatty Gohain Gaon Mahila Samiti, Swapna Borgohain. It will be held from the pre-primary level to HS level. On the other hand, quiz competition will be held for the students of Class VII to Class X. The winners of both the competitions will be awarded with certificates and cash prize, informed Runjuma Rajkhowa.

The second day’s programmes will get underway with morning prayer. This will be followed by Bhagawata Bhraman at 6 am which will be participated by the gayan-bayan of Kamarfadia Salmoria gaon. Naam prasanga will be held in the noon which will be conducted by Bhairab Mahanta of Tengapukhuri Thuramukh Gojola Xatra. The programmes will end with a bhaona titled Dronaparva Abhimanya Vadh which will be inaugurated by noted social worker Abani Baruah.
