DHUBRI: An interactive and lively talk session on the topic ‘Cultural Heritage Management: An Approach to Western Assam’ was organized by the Nilima Folk Art Museum in collaboration with Pramathesh Barua College of Gauripur at its auditorium hall on Monday. The talk was conducted by Archivist of American Institute of Indian Studies, Gurgaon, Dr. Sangeeta Dutta, while former Principal of the college and president of PB College governing body, Ganga Shankar Pandey chaired the session.
Dr. Gopal Barman in his introductory speech highlighted the importance of awareness needed for preserving the rich cultural heritage of Gauripur. Dr. Dutta in her digital presentation spoke at a length on the ways of preserving material cultural artefacts, both tangible and intangible heritage which are available in Gauripur. In her deliberation, she urged the students to actively participate in activities conducted by cultural organizations, visit the museums, archives and other cultural institutions for understanding the historical and cultural importance and significance of Western Assam.
Dr Dutta during her hour-long deliberation also put forward the proposal that the American Institute of Indian Studies, Gurgaon was keen and willing to preserve the folk songs of Pratima Pandey Barua in digital format, which received a positive response from Ganga Shankar Pandey. Dhubri Additional Deputy Commissioner, Animesh Talukdar while speaking in the session, praised the efforts jointly taken by Nilima Folk Art Museum, District Museum and PB College for creating awareness on the culture of this part of lower Assam among the people of Dhubri and Gauripur.
