Prohibition on possession of firearms in Sivasagar district

GAURISAGAR: The Sivasagar district administration, by an order following the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has prohibited civilians, other than persons of exempted category, to possess or carry at any time more than two firearms. This was stated in an order issued on November 3 by the District Magistrate of Sivasagar, Lakhinandan Gogoi.

The order further stated that any person/s who has in his possession more than two firearms may retain any two of such firearms and directed to deposit the remaining firearm/s with the officer in charge of the nearest police station or subject to the condition prescribed for the purpose of Sub-Section (I) of Section 21 of Arms Act 1959, with a license dealer or, where such a person is a member of armed forces of the Union in a unit armoury referred to in that sub-section. The order further directed the armed licensee to deposit the firearm latest by December 13, 2020.
