Tezpur: Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate of Sonitpur, Monoj Kumar Deka has imposed a prohibitory order under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in Sonitpur district taking into account the recent boat accident which took place in Guwahati. An official press release issued on Saturday stated that all boats, both manual and engine driven (bhut bhuti) and other water transport vehicles in Sonitpur should maintain boat fitness certificate issued by competent authority, essential safety measures like life jackets and a pilot licence issued by competent authority. Else, boats will be prohibited from plying in the river. This order has been enforced in the entire district with immediate effect and will continue until further order.
