Prohibitory orders in poll-bound areas across Assam

LAKHIMPUR, Oct 15: State Election Commission (SEC), Assam, vide Letter No. SEC.71/2022/24 dtd. 11/10/2022, has already issued notification for conducting the election for the Deori Autonomous Council Election, 2022 and Model Code of Conduct has come into vogue in the poll-bound areas across the State since October 12.

Following the notification, to check the likelihood of vitiative role to be played by criminality, any kind of political violence during the electioneering period until the declaration of results, to ensure free and fair election and for the maintenance of law and order and to inspire confidence on the impartiality of the election machinery, District Magistrate of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan has issued prohibitory order vide No. MCC. 1/DAC Election/ 2022/3 under Section 144 CrPC to be adhered to in the poll bound areas under DAC constituencies of the district. These constituencies are No. 15 Bordeori DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covering Shanti Nagar, Baruah Chuba, Majar Chuba, Dakhin Chuba, Sadiyal Chuba, Dakhin Chuba, Kuli Chuba and No. 2 Uddeshyapur villages; No. 16 Bahgorah DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covering No.1 Bahgorah, No.2 Bahgorah( Part) and No. 3 Bahgorah villages; No. 17 Kachikata DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covering No.2 Kachikata, Kachikata Bagan Grant, 85 (Ka) No. 1 Kachikata, No.1 Motia, No. 1 Sarjan, No.2 Sarjan, No.2 Borbil, No.2 Dikrong Chapori. Banderdewa, Rajgarh, Jaypur Pichala (Part-1) villages; No. 18 Pichala DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covering Durpang Deori, Sankarpur Deori, Jaypur, Pichala( Part), Deutola, Sonapur, Lankapur, Kerekjuli (part), Dushutimukh (part), Thakurdoloni, Pichala Deori villages; No. 19 Kinapothar DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covered by Majar Chapori, No. 1 Kinapothar, No.2 Kinapothar, Borchapori, Kundil Nagar villages; No. 20 Bangalmora DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covering Karipukhuri, Bangalmara Thengal, Bangalmara Miri, Salmara, Adhakhana, Adhakhana Likhok Chapori, Sandahkhowa villages; No. 21 Gabharu Tunijan DAC Constituency (Reserved for ST) covering Rampur, Padamapur Deori, Krishnapur Deori, Harmutty Deori ( part) Rangajan Deori, Nakari Deori( part), Badhakara Kachikata Deori (part) villages.

The order has prohibited carrying, keeping and possessing fire arms in the poll-bound DAC constituencies until the electioneering works are over. Through the same order, the District Magistrate has directed all the fire arms holders of the aforesaid areas, locality to deposit their weapons, fire arms at their respective police stations within 7 days and to obtain proper receipt from the Police authority, failing of which they will be liable to be prosecuted under Section 188 of IPC. The impounded fire arms will be returned by the concerned OCs within a week after the declaration of the results of DAC Election 2022. The order has come into force with immediate effect.
