Bongaigaon: “A person who has ties with an enemy country is offered the post of president of a political party. This is truly an embarrassing and worrying matter for the public,” remarked Phani Bhusan Choudhury, MP of Barpeta Parliamentary Constituency, on Thursday at Bongaigaon, commenting on the selection of Gaurav Gogoi as APCC president.
“This is a responsible post. The person holding this position must have a clear image and vision regarding the interests of their own country. However, in recent days, we have witnessed several conflicts concerning his connections and visit to Pakistan, as stated by our Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. This raises the question of why he was offered such a responsible post,” Choudhury stated.
Choudhury also mentioned that, despite the Congress party’s efforts, they will not be able to revive themselves. “Even if I talk about Bongaigaon, I haven’t seen any enthusiasm among the Congress workers. In the last Panchayat elections, Congress did not display any enthusiasm to secure a win, and they couldn’t even field candidates for all the seats. So, projecting Gaurav Gogoi as APCC President will not bring any miracle,” he added.
Commenting on the Government’s decision to provide arms licenses to indigenous people of Assam, Choudhury stated that there is nothing unusual about the decision. “Issuing arms licenses to citizens is not a new matter. It is an ongoing process. Many people in our state already hold arms licenses. If it is decided to provide licenses to more people who feel insecure and want to feel safe, then I don’t see any big issue there. There is nothing political about it; it’s just about public security,” Choudhury commented.
