Morigaon: In a significant development, Morigaon Police and the Morigaon district administration on Wednesday attached approximately 2 kathas and 20 lechas of land belonging to alleged financial fraudster Sariful Islam.
In a joint operation, authorities attached 1 katha and 15 lechas of land located in Morigaon town and another 1 katha and 5 lechas near the Morigaon Swahid Tilak-Hemram-Gunaviram Model Civil Hospital.
The operation was led by Morigaon Deputy Commissioner Devashis Sarma and Additional Superintendent of Police Samiran Baisya. The land attachment was carried out following a court order issued by the Morigaon court.
According to the court order, the accused failed to justify the source of his income, leading the court to reject his petition. In response to the objection raised by the accused regarding the Investigating Officer (I.O.) not seeking prior approval from the Superintendent of Police (SP), the court noted that the I.O. had sought permission via a letter dated 10/02/2025. The SP granted approval through a letter dated 11/02/2025.
Considering the available case materials, and invoking powers under Section 107(4) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the court deemed it appropriate to pass an order for the attachment of the said land properties.
